New Heaven & New Earth, Here and Now

A Beloved Community WeCreating the Future

Humanity, full of creative possibilities, is God’s work.
Humanity is called on to assist God.
Humanity is called to co-create with God…
Co-creators with God of a New World.”

-Hildegard of Bingen

A new world is arriving in these times. And we are a part of it bringing it forth.

This is not solely an apocalyptic process of great change, destruction, and loss—though it may be that too.

No, it is also a momentous evolutionary becoming. A significant transformation in the consciousness of humanity and the planet, perhaps even with cosmic implications.

An apocalypse, in its true meaning, is an uncovering, a divine revelation. Only in recent history has it been taken to represent the end of the world. Which, in one sense, is true. It is the end of an old world. A false and covered-over world that has run its course.

This unveiling is not a sudden act, though we may become aware of it in a momentary flash. Rather, it is an ongoing, creative process.

Sometimes in the creative act, a clearing away is first necessary to make space for the fullness of what needs to come forth.

And the fullness of what is beckoning to emerge more and more is nothing less than new heaven and new earth, joined together and unfolding in our midst. Not in an instantaneous flash or in another realm, but here and now, coming forth in great and small ways as we each take our part in creating it together, with God—from our divine being, day by day.

This is what we mean in ICN by WeCreating.

“Creativity itself is what is evolving in the cosmos, and we are at the growing edge as the Trinitarian Life Cycle moves from Transcendent to Incarnate to Realized. We are in a position to realize ourselves as incarnate divine creativity.”

-Beatrice Bruteau

Over the last months, we have been engaging more fully in our evolutionary becoming of Beloved Community.

From the outset, we called this “Our Christ Commission.” To inhabit, to become, to be the divine communion we are.

We have grown into this communion more by in-corporating the fullness of our divine reality, which includes one another, spirit guides, and the earth—and ourselves.

We have also grown into integrative dynamisms of the I & We, welcoming a deeper way of togetherness in effusive mutuality, where our capacity for connectedness, holistic trust, and spiritual intimacy is inhabited in both our inter-relationality and our intra-being as one communal body. The body of Christ.

Of course, not that we have attained or arrived fully in these realities—we are always still becoming and growing, differentiating and integrating, taking three steps forward and then two steps back. And, we keep learning and evolving together. Surely that is the essence of beloved community, not some idealized utopia of perfection.

We acknowledge our ongoing process. And, we can still hold ourselves to the aspirational fullness of not only living into who we truly are, but even living from who we truly are, together.

“You are now going to transcend that self-centered path, and the way by which you have come is no longer the way by which you will go. This is a phase transition. There will be new rules in a new world.”

-Beatrice Bruteau

At our recent ICN retreat, I shared a vision of how we are both seeking and embodying our Christ Commission as a community. As we have been transitioning from our Founding Stage into our WeCreating Stage, we are coming more and more into inhabiting the full implication of being a beloved community, a collective fractal of the body of Christ in this time.

Beloved Community is not just about us finding a place of deep belonging, receiving support in our lives, or even growing together in our becoming—though these are all good and beautiful things. But along with this great inflow, Beloved Community co-generates an enlivening interflow that catalyzes, inspires, and compels us to overflow and flow out into the world. And not only as a presence of blessing, peace, and love—though yes, that too—but even as well, as divine creators of the new heaven and new earth.

This is the great step we take when we live from the fullness of our divine communion.

As Rumi put it, “Begin as creation, become a creator.”

This is how we are becoming WeCreators of the future. Bearers and bringers of the loving evolution of Christianity and the world.

Our primary offering this week is an invitation to watch the video sharing the vision for what this looks like for our community. It’s partly a talk, partly a communal voicing, and partly a creative energy field of spirit stirring among us.

I invite you to join in the spirit of this dynamic, creative field—which is present still here and now. In watching the video, you can join in from your place of future participation in this living moment.

In doing so, you are welcome to bring your voice, your energy, your passion into response and ongoing creative inspiration in our midst.

If you’re drawn to take the time to engage with it, I’d love to hear how this vision resonates with you or what sparks in you as you partake. See below for some ways to respond.

After watching, we’d love for you to contribute what is alive and stirring in you. You can bring forth response in any of several ways:

Next week, we’ll share some of the current and emerging pathways present in the community now, with opportunities for deeper engagement and further WeCreating!
