“Here We Are” – Conceiving Divine Vitality in Us

A Christophany Advent of Being Divine Vitality – Week One

This advent season, we are welcomed into receiving and conceiving together—from the very truth of our being—the manifestation of God-Being-Us revealed and birthed in our lives.

One “theological” word for this is Christophany.

But rather than a mere description or categorization, it is a potent word of invitation and revelation. It is a recognition of how Christ comes forth, ever and always, in the manifestation of God in and through all things. The “phania” is the manifestation, the direct appearance, the shining through of the radiance of divine light. The “splendor of the Mystery visible to all” as Raimon Panikkar describes it.

And he says “that every being is a Christophany.” This is the manifestation of Christ to human consciousness. “The abyss between the divine and the human is reduced to zero in Christ.” And Christ is being born again, ever and always, in and through our very being.

And so in this season, when we welcome and move toward the birth of Christ, we might be with this not only as a historical event of remembrance or a mythological story, but even as a Christophany birthed eternally and particularly in us, here and now.

This is not a mere doctrine or conceptual proposition which we decide to believe or not. It is a living energetic that is conceived, gestated, grown, and born in us. The sacred manifestation of our divine life and being, embodied here and now, is our Christ incarnation.

Divine Vitality is the primary energetic of this advent, this arrival of the divine being born anew in the most elemental substance of matter itself. It suffuses and grows into many shapes and forms, each as expressions of Christ. And even in ourselves we can inhabit, bear, and bring forth expressions of Christ in and from our very being—charged with the energy of God, the vibratory light of Christ permeating and illuminating our embodied presence as divine creation.

Do we believe it?
Do we feel it?
Can we welcome it?
Can we be here with it in the annunciation of the gift of our divine being within?
Might we consent to receiving this conception of Christ in us too?

Saying Yes

And a messenger of Alaha (God) came to her and said
“Peace to you—
The peace of new beginnings,
The fullness of force before creation.
To you—who are fully ready and ripe,
in tune with Alaha’s melody.
To you—who are prepared to follow
this sacred song to its last note—
Here’s the power of sacred Unity!
The One who shines and brightens the cosmos,
is already with and within you.
To you, who are ready to kneel to blessing wherever,
whenever you feel it:
The fruit of your purpose in life is growing within you right now.”

– Aramaic rendering by Neil Douglas-Klotz

As you read this annunciation with new words, perhaps in a way less familiar with how you’ve heard the story before, let yourself feel the words as offered not only to Mary but so too as an arrival for you as well.

Receive the annunciation of your Christophany, your sacred conception of divine life offered and given, growing within you already, even now.

Read it as many times as you feel drawn. Pause with any phrase and any word, feeling and absorbing it with the pulse of divine vitality resonating in your deep being.

Here We Are

Welcome the breath of life.

The song of divine life dances on the wind. The melody of God fills the air. The tones are charged with the fullness of force, the Source, the sacred unity of all life in the cosmos. Of all time. All that has been, is yet to be, and is now.

This eternal life force moves in and through you. We breathe it in. The spirit of divine consciousness in and through our very breath.

In this spacious dawning of creation anew, our mind is at ease. We rest in the stillness of a gentle breeze. And perhaps we see, with our spiritual eyes, the angel of the Lord, dancing on the wind.

She may be a figure grand and glorious. She may be a twirling leaf. She may be a ray of light. Or even simply no-thing our eyes can see nor mind perceive.

And she meets us in this sacred moment. This breathing now.

Here I Am.
Here We Are.

“The brilliant light of the cosmos is already within you!”

The presence of God envelopes and surrounds you, like a great cloud, surrounding you with brightness and light. The spirit and power of God in divine vitality suffuses you from the light of your very being.

Perhaps we are ready to kneel to this immense blessing, wherever and whenever we feel it.

Perhaps we feel it now.

Or in the ever-present annunciation of divine life carried on the wind in each and every breath we breathe today, tomorrow, and evermore.

Here I Am.
Here We Are.

“Divine Life is growing within you right now.”

You who are highly favored, who are ripe and ready, will you receive this life that is already yours?

We are free to consent. To say yes—if we would.

We give this not to the messenger.

Indeed, the yes to the new life of divine vitality within us is an inner assent, a deep yes to the flow of life coming forth in God, in us, from the Source of our being always already within.

The deepest yes we can say—the yes to God-Being-Us.

Our yes is not to this idea, this concept, or even this belief. It is a whole-body yes to the Really Real, the reality of who we truly are, arising from the Origin of Life itself, within us. Charging and enlivening every cell and fiber of our being. Quickening us in the spiritual womb of God, conceived and carrying.

Divine Life
In us.

Divine Life
As us.

“May your word to us be fulfilled.”
